Sustainable partners in Angola celebrate young local entrepreneurs’ event

Exciting times in Angola for young entrepreneurs supported by a newly launched Dutch government initiative called ‘Orange Corners Angola’ – partnered by SBM Offshore.

SBM Offshore and five key donors, among other contributors, were delighted to participate in the official inauguration of the Angolan program held in April 2018 in Luanda.

Orange Corners is a successful concept of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands – in collaboration with Dutch and local knowledge institutes and multinational corporations in African cities. Its primary goal is to promote and mentor young entrepreneurs and create spaces, or ‘corners’ where their skills and ideas can come together to shape the future.

SBM’s involvement is part of our commitment to sustainability and to local communities in our key market Angola. We have made a three-year commitment to Orange Corners Angola to be one of the main partners, to collaborate and invest in the network, training program which provides a take-off platform for young entrepreneurs and co-working space.

Carla Almeida, SBM Offshore Project Support / FA Supervisor who was instrumental in implementing the partnership said “Going forward, SBM expects to be a positive contributor through day-to-day involvement in the Orange Corners Association. We invite all of the SBM community to participate in each stage of the development of this valuable project.”

Orange Corners are spaces where skills and ideas come together to shape the future. Together with partners Orange Corners is creating inspiring take off platforms for young entrepreneurs in various African cities. With the support of the Dutch government, they are nourished with a yearlong programme, offered by a local service provider that understands the dynamics and local context. In addition, members are connected to valuable networks.

The Dutch government is committed to make a positive contribution to the economic growth of the African continent. Entrepreneurs play a key role in the economic development of a country. They create new businesses and jobs and are able to solve socio-economic challenges by creating innovative solutions that have an impact. Orange Corners will contribute towards a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Angola, which builds skills, knowledge transfer, confidence and economic empowerment for the Angolan youth and provides them with opportunities.
