SBM’s wind floater makes heads turn at FOWT

This was the second consecutive year that SBM has exhibited at this annual event – now in its fifth year. Plenty of momentum for the next phase of this industry was in evidence – going beyond pilot projects and jumping into commercialization of offshore wind farms were key themes for speakers.

Dubbed by the organizers as “The world’s largest event dedicated to floating offshore wind turbines”, it certainly lived up to its claim, with more than 800 participants from 25 countries attending and delegations from countries with the most potential markets, such as Japan, USA, Germany and the United Kingdom participating.

Joost Heemskerk, SBM Offshore Renewables Commercial Director presented on ‘FOW gearing up for commercial scale’. Commenting on the success of the event, he explained that “FOWT is vital for SBM as all the key players worldwide converge here. Our presence sends the market a strong message that we are committed to the energy transition and allows us to showcase our wind floater concept.

Stephanie St Hill, SBM Offshore Renewables Business Development Manager France, spoke at a pre-event discussion for key local players in France’s southern ‘Sud PACA’ region followed by a press conference roundtable on the opening day.

EDF Energies Nouvelles exhibited at FOWT showcasing its Provence Grand Large project. SBM Offshore will provide its floating wind systems solution for EDF Energies Nouvelles’ pilot offshore France, which is subject to achieving committed financing.
